Logan & McKenzie

“Church has become  more than something we do, and it doesn’t cause us to feel inauthentic or hungry like we used to feel.”

McKenzie and I met in 2015 on our second day of college. McKenzie was no stranger to church, and has been attending since she was born. My parents were brought up in 2 different sects of Christianity, and they left it up to me to decide if it was something that I wanted to pursue. Shortly after we started dating, she introduced me to the Lord, and I was baptized a few months later.

From there, we have been growing together in God’s word, but were looking for a church home that could support us on own journey. We struggled to find somewhere where we felt connected,  not matter how many small groups we joined or committees we volunteered with. We often felt like we needed to struggle on our own as we navigated a new relationship, the transition to college, my new faith, my MS diagnosis, McKenzie’s mystery stomach issues that left her sick for months, many family deaths, our marriage and the COVID-19 pandemic where the format of many churches changed to virtual.

After months of “church homelessness,” McKenzie ran into Daniel, who she knew through a mutual friend. After attending City Parish for 6 months, we feel that we have found the answer to our prayers. This church is God-centered and family-centered which is important to us we grow together and think about growing our family. This church demonstrates the philosophy of being the church, rather than just being a place. We have felt loved, nurtured, and supported. We have both grown immensely in the short time that we have attended, which is something that we have been praying for during the length of our relationship. We have found transparency, humility, and authenticity, which have been added blessings that we didn’t even know we were looking for. Church has become  more than something we do, and it doesn’t cause us to feel inauthentic or hungry like we used to feel. We are so thankful for our church family at City Parish!
